Urvashi Art Music and Cultural Society is a registered society under The Society Registration Act, 1870 at Delhi by Government of Delhi and working for the upliftment of Indian classical art forms at various levels. It is mainly working for the empowerment of the weaker sections of society through enriching their performing skills and making them strong through constant training.
Thousands of artists trained by us are earning their livelihood by their nourished skills and making their lives better by way of our efforts and the generosity of our supporters.
Dr Rekha Mehra, President Urvashi Dance and Cultural Society is a Kathak exponent of world repute. She has performed in various parts of the world and has been awarded several prestigious awards. She is the guiding spirit behind Urvashi's activities and its many initiatives. Through her vision, dedication, and confidence in her art and disciples, across generations, she has been successfully channelizing and cultivating the energy of the youth and instilling in them love and pride for the cultural radiations of our country in the form of Kathak Dance. She has trained, nurtured, guided and given exposure to the talent of her disciples, who have been lauded globally.
Dr. Rekha Mehra is a Ph.D. Holder in Kathak Dance, Lecturer and Examiner rayag Sangeet Samiti in Allahbad. Also Praveen(M.A.) in Kathak, Prabhkar in Vocal, Prabhakar in Bharatnatyam and Gold Medallist in Dance from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. An exponent of Kathak Dance, Choreographer, Guru and social activist. She has skillfully blended Indian mythology with the traditional dance style of Jaipur and Lucknow Gharana. She has performed several International festivals in India and abroad namely - Lucknow Mahostave, Mahakhumbha, International Trade Fair, Khajuraho Festival, Festival of India, Common Wealth Games Programme, Sharjah festival, Onam festival in Maldives. Performed at Doha festival, Cambodia -Sea Festival; Moscow, Spain and Singapore to name a few. She has been associated and empaneled with Ministry of culture, Govt of India,ICCR, Zonal cultural centers, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Sangeet Natak Academy.
She is panellist in ICCR. and has been awarded as Outstanding Dancer by the FOI-Cell, Ministry of Culture. Recently she received International Women Day award from Delhi Government and ICUNR in 2016.
She has choreographed dances and thematic events for social awareness and for the promotion of physical, social and mental well-being of Women and Children like HIV-AIDS 'Nidaan" Global Warming, Women Empowerment, War and Peace, Dhani, Chunaria, Road Safety, Athithi Devo Bhav, Save the Girl Child, Ladli, Nari Shakti, Atal Shanti Ki Khoj Mein, Kargil Martyrs, War & Peace, Beti Bacho Beti Padhoa, Global Warming etc.
In March, 2020, she organized a event on the eve of World Women's Day named Kaal Shakti at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi which was a grand successful event with entire eminent exponents of Kathak including Guru Birju Maharaj graced the occasion.
She is member of various committees and institutions such as Member of Beti Bachao Beti Padao, Member, Expert of Ministry of Culture & Member of FICCI , FLO.
She has been associated with many institutes for lectures, demonstrations, workshops on dance, judgments through Spic Macay. ABSS Pune and Swaranjali, to name.
Dr Rekha Mehra is constantly s working in the field of upliftment of weaker sections of the society, (he society earlier stages the awareness programmes like Nidan on HIV/AIDS, Nari Shakti, Atal Shanti Ki Khoj Mein, Kargil Martyrs, War & Peace and Ladli.
